Student Loan Consolidation – Loan Information and Tips on Getting the Best Rate
Most people who look back to their college days – whether those days are months, years, or decades in the past – have mostly fond memories. There were a lot of good times partying, making new friends, and having new experiences.
Interlaced with all of those good times was a lot of work. Long hours in the library, dorm room, or rented apartment were required to make the grade. There was also another kind of work, which had to do with making the right decisions about your coursework and area of focus for your studies.

And, there was always that lurking financial challenge of who was going to pay for all of this, and how. Every college student knows at the back of his or her mind that their education is not free. Your education had to be paid for, either through grants, scholarships, parents’ money, working through college, or student loans.

For most students, getting through college financially required a combination of one or more of these methods of paying for it. And, for most, student loans played a starring role.

Students who took out multiple student loans in college may now have trouble making the monthly payments. Having multiple loans usually means that monthly payments easily run into the hundreds of dollars. This debt burden can place heavy demands on your cash flow.

One solution to reduce payments is to consolidate your student loans. Consolidating can allow the borrower to stretch his or her payments out over a longer period of time. In some cases, it can also allow you to qualify for a reduced interest rate. Both of these factors can lead to an immediate reduction in monthly payments, making them more manageable.

When Private Student Loan Consolidation Is Recommended

If you have private student loans, you should pursue consolidation through a private lender – which is usually a bank. You should consolidate if you would like to reduce your monthly payments by stretching out the loan over more time – even if in so doing you end up taking on a more costly loan (since interest will be paid over more years and interest costs therefore will go up).

Also, if you believe your current credit score is better than it was when you took out your loans, you may qualify for a better interest rate now.

Student Loan Consolidation: Loan Information and Tips

If you believe consolidation is right for you, here are some tips on how to get the best rate:

1. Create a list of multiple consolidation lenders:

If you are going to go through with consolidation, it will benefit you greatly to spend the time to research at least 3-5 lenders who specialize in consolidating student loans. Competition in the free market is always a good thing (as you probably learned in Macro Economics 101), and getting multiple quotes is almost sure to land you an offer for a lower rate.

2. Decide your ideal repayment period:

If being able to make your payments were not an issue at all, then you would ideally want the shortest-possible repayment period. That is because shorter repayment periods always translate to cheaper loans. Of course, since payments are one of the main reasons you are consolidating, you may want to go for the maximum terms of 25-30 years (depending upon the lender). This will ensure you get the lowest payments.

3. Apply:

As they say in the business world: execute, execute, execute. You need to not only list up those lenders, but actually follow through in applying to all of them. You will be tempted to accept the first offer that comes along: do not make that mistake. Wait for all of the offers to come in before deciding.

Follow these 3 tips to get the lowest rates on your consolidation.

Student Loan Consolidation Company – 3 Tips For How to Find the Right One
Having a lot of student loans can feel like a burden. After all, life has enough expenses for most of us to deal with: just to get by month to month, we have to pay for housing, food, medical bills, and transportation.
Sure, anybody who has had the opportunity to go to college is probably pretty grateful for having had that privilege. And, it is a wonderful thing to have access to loans as a vehicle for paying for that education. But still, that does not change the fact that they can be more than a little bit difficult to pay off.

One way to potentially reduce your monthly student loan payments is to find a student loan consolidation company and consolidate your student loan debt. This is ideal if you have more than one student loan. By consolidating, you can reduce your monthly payments by potentially lowering your interest rate and stretching out your payments over more time.

Student Loan Consolidation: Federal Or Private?

The first decision you will need to make is whether you should consolidate with a private lender or with a federal consolidation program. The decision is an easy one to make, once you know how it works.

Basically, you should consolidate with a private lender if your existing loans are private loans. However, if your current student loans are federal loans such as Stafford, PLUS, Federal Perkins, or HEAL loans, you should go with federal consolidation.

Private Consolidation: How Lenders Determine Your Interest Rate

When it comes to private loan consolidation, it is important to understand how your interest rate is determined. Essentially, it is a combination of two factors: 1. the current standard rate such as the prime rate (or LIBOR) rate, and 2. your credit score. Your credit score determines how big the spread (or margin) is that is placed on top of the standard (e.g., prime) rate. The better your credit score, the lower your interest rate.

Your consolidated loan rate is usually a fixed rate, and you can choose your loan terms (e.g., 15 years, 20 years, etc.). But first, you will need to choose a consolidation lender that will offer you the lowest rate.

How To Find The Right Student Loan Consolidation Company

Here are 3 tips for getting the lowest rate on your private consolidation loan:

1. Make a list of at least 5-7 consolidation companies: As with dating, looking for a job, car shopping, and pretty much anything else in life where choice is involved, more choices are always better when you are starting out. Of course, at some point you will need to reduce your choices down to a reasonable number. But, start with as large a set of companies as possible.

2. Narrow your list down to 3 companies: Do online research on the companies you have found. Look at factors such as how long they have been in the student loan consolidation business, any low advertised rates they show, and the terms and conditions of their loans. Also, pay attention to whether the company feels like one you would want to do business with.

3. Apply to all 3 companies: Now, be sure to apply to all 3 companies. It will be easy to want to stop applying once you get an offer, but this is not the time to be lazy! Just a bit of extra effort could land you a lower rate which will save you thousands over the life of the loan.

Follow these 3 tips to find the best deal out there for you on a student consolidation loan.

American Express – A History of Leadership and Financial Excellence
When most people hear the name American Express, they think of the credit cards the company issues. What they don’t know is that, long before it issued credit cards, American Express was a company that did what its name indicates-it was an express delivery company serving the United States of America, carrying packages around the country. Though today it is one of the world’s largest global payment companies, with a presence in more than 130 countries, its beginnings had little to do with financial matters.
American Express (Amex) began in New York in 1950, a time when many east coasters were moving west. The U.S. Postal Service was slow, expensive, and unreliable (sometimes items were lost or stolen); it didn’t deliver everywhere; and it only carried letter-sized envelopes. It hardly met the needs of a growing nation, and the climate was ripe for something new. Seizing the opportunity, several entrepreneurs began express companies that became integral in connecting the United States as it grew, with horseback riders and stagecoach drivers carrying all kinds of packages from the established eastern cities to the expanding west. American Express became known as the best of these companies.

After realizing that its largest client base was banks, Amex limited its delivery services to smaller packages. Because of the small size and ease of transport, delivering financial packages such as stock certificates, notes, and currency to banks turned a good profit. The company began offering its own financial products, introducing money orders in 1882 and travelers cheques in 1891, with great success. These financial endeavors led to relationships with many European banks. The American Express name became visible around Europe, and its first office there opened in Paris in 1895. A London office followed the next year, and by 1910, offices were located in Southampton, Liverpool, Hamburg, Berlin, Bremen, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Copenhagen, Naples and Genoa.

As history passed, the company’s evolution unfolded in response to changing eras and events on the world scene. As American Express grew in Europe, millions of those Europeans were beginning new lives in America. Immigrants arriving on Ellis Island needed to exchange currencies, but there were no official currency exchange services. Independent money changers were swindling the immigrants, so in 1905, the U.S. Immigration Department asked American Express to provide official currency exchange services on Ellis Island.

A decade later, Amex was inadvertently thrust into the travel business by World War I. The summer of 1914 found 150,000 American tourists stranded in Europe. Banks there had stopped honoring foreign credit, so many of these tourists had no access to money and no way to get home. American Express offices throughout Europe provided help, cashing travelers cheques and money orders so Americans could arrange travel back to the states. Amex and nine U.S. banks then shipped $10 million in gold to Europe, allowing local banks to honor foreign drafts again. This allowed the remaining American tourists to book passage home. In 1915, American Express officially entered the travel business, and before long it was offering tours throughout the world. The war ended, and in 1922, an American Express ship completed the first ever cruise around the world. As a result, the company became known for providing luxury travel.

The stock market crashed in 1929, and because it was not technically a banking institution, American Express did not close during the three day bank holiday that followed. Once again it was able to fill a void by offering bank services. The company had enough cash reserves to cash all travelers cheques and money orders, and was even able to cash those issued by other banks that had gone out of business. Though the 1930s were difficult, the company hung on.

Its experience in WWI allowed Amex to navigate and survive the trials of WWII, and its European offices actually remained open until the last possible moment in countries about to be invaded. In England, the company helped evacuate Allied military leaders and diplomats, as well as British children.

What is a Student Visa and Who is Eligible to Study in the United States?
Many foreign students have questions regarding an education in the United States and have no idea how to begin the process of immigrating to the U.S. and applying to schools in the United States. To begin the process there are several steps that need to be taken by international students to attend a qualifying institution of higher learning. Primarily, the school must be certified by the U.S. Investigations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Student Exchange Visitor Program. A list of qualifying school can be found on the ICE website. The student must apply and gain admission to an educational institution and be issued a SEVIS Form I-20.
Younger students who are elementary and secondary school aged will be issued H-4 or L-2 status by ICE. These are non-immigrant statuses but there are elementary and secondary schools in the United States who issue I-20′s with the approval of ICE. The schools are listed on the ICE website. An F-1 student visa holder may also attend a public secondary school in the United States for up to twelve months, but they must reimburse the public school for the full cost of their attendance. The I-20 is the first step in obtaining an F-1 Visa, but there are other important steps that must be taken for students wishing to attend school in the U.S.

Students who are currently in the United States under a different non-immigrant status must change their status to student before they attend school in the U.S. Students can apply for a student visa at the U.S. Consulate in their country or another Embassy outside of the United States. By obtaining this change students will be allowed to apply for an F-1 Visa if they obtain the issued I-20 and meet the following qualifications; 1) students must prove they have the funding to attend school in the United States; 2) students must not intend to remain permanently in the United States after their studies end; 3) students must be proficient in the English language.

Students who are married and intend to study in the United States will need their qualifying family members apply for F-2 status. Children of an F-1 student are eligible to attend public elementary and secondary school. Spouses of F-1 students are allowed to live in the United States but they are not allowed to work in the U.S. A dependent child of a student under F-1 status must be age 21 or younger.

Students who are under F-1 Visa status are not allowed to work off campus for the first academic year of their education. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services or (CIS) has specific rules and guidelines for students under F-1 Visas working on or off campus. F-1 students are allowed to work on-campus during their first year of academic study. F-1 students can begin working on campus as much as 30 days before the beginning of the school year. During their second and subsequent years, students are allowed to work off-campus but only as part of their educational affiliation or directly related to their field of study.

How Do I Get a US Student Visa?
Whether you want to enter a short course or get a Ph.D. in philosophy, a US student visa may allow you to do so in the United States.
There are two non-immigrant visa categories for the foreign nationals wishing to study in the United States. The “F” visas are reserved for non-immigrants who are wishing to pursue the academic studies and/or language training programs, and the “M” visas are reserved for non-immigrants who are wishing to pursue nonacademic or vocational studies.

The application requirements for F and M US student visas are basically the same. Getting either an F-1 or M-1 visa is a two- to three-step process:

The first step in applying for a F-1 Visa or M-1 US student visa is that the students apply to schools, and once they’re accepted, their school fills out and sends them a form known as a Certificate of Eligibility (SEVIS I-20). The students will use this certificate in preparing their application for a US student visa.

Second, the students apply for either a US student visa (if they’re currently in another country) or for a change to student status (if they’re in the U.S., eligible to change status from another visa, and would prefer this to leaving and applying at a consulate).

Unless the students are from a country that is visa exempt, such as Canada or Bermuda, they must apply for an F-1 or M-1 US student visa at a U.S. consulate with jurisdiction over their place of residence. When the students apply for the US Student visa, they will be required to show that they have been accepted at a SEVP certified institution, that they have the financial means to pay for their course of study, that they have the required English proficiency, and that they will return to their home country at the end of the academic or vocational program.

When the students arrive in the United States, they will receive a Form I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record) that will include their admission number to the United States. This admission number will then be written on their Form I-20 by an immigration inspector. Then the Immigration Inspector will send first and second page of Form I-20, to their school as a record of their legal admission to the United States. The students are expected to keep pages three and four, known as the I-20 ID. This document is their proof that they are allowed to study in the United States as an F-1 or M-1 student. The students should see their Designated School Official (DSO) if they need a replacement copy of their I-20 ID. They must also keep their Form I-94 safe, because it proves that they legally entered the United States.

Each time the students exit and reenter the U.S., they will get a new I-94 card authorizing their stay and indicating the time limit. When the students have stayed in the U.S. on an M-1 Visa for a year (or whatever time they were given) and they wish to remain longer, they may apply for one two-year extension of their I-20 to their designated school official. F-1 students may apply for extensions of stay indefinitely, as long as they continue to maintain their eligibility for the status and their DSO grants an extension to complete studies.

Procedure needed to get student visa. There are two types of visa which will be provided by USCIS they are F-1 Visa and M-1 Visa, who wished to study in United States.

Top US Universities Offering Graduate Programs in Game Design and Development
I would start off with some words of advice.

First, decide whether you want to get into -

1.) Game design / Development – For this, I would suggest an MS CS with a focus on Games (like University of Southern California (USC) course).

2.) Game Art / Animation – Go for a Master of Arts rather than MS CS (Something like DigiPen’s offering).

3.) Research into Games / Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Immersion, etc. – MS CS with a focus on AI, For eg., Stanford has courses on gaming.

Finally, my perspective is that you can always get to (1.) after you done with (3.), but I can’t think of any other possible permutation. And (2.) is a totally different track.

Following is a list of institutes offering courses relevant to games: -

1. Digipen Institute – Affiliated with Nintendo of America. Cost is reasonable and it is located in Seattle, Washington.

2. Entertainment Technology Center @ Carnegie Mellon University

3. Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA- The Computer Science college of Georgia Tech offers classes at the GVU center (Graphics, Visualization, and Usability) about animation, virtual reality, etc. The college also has classes for game programming and development.

4. Michigan State University – East Lansing, MI. Offers a Game Design and Development specialization for undergrad students majoring in Computer Science, Art, or Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media.

5. Rochester Institute of Technology – Masters in Game Design & Development. First degree in Software Engineering. Other game-related majors: Computer Science, Animation.

6. The Art Institute, USA – With locations in more than 20 US cities as well as online offerings, their program in Game Art & Design is well worth checking out.

7. University of Advancing Technology,Tempe, AZ – UAT is an accredited, private, four year university. Focused around technology, their unique college degree programs include: Game Design, Network Security, Digital Animation, Computer Programming, Multimedia Design, E-commerce, and more. Courses available on campus (Arizona) or obtain your degree on line.

8. University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI – Offers a course in Computer Game Design and Development.

9. University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA – Besides having an excellent CS program in general, USC also offers a minor in Multimedia, which includes several courses directly related to game development. Game dev at USC is one of the best and customizable course that I could find. You can focus on many different aspects of game design and development. It could be an industry-oriented course or research-based. But, USC is costly as usual and again, this is a very subjective issue.

10. University of North Texas, Denton, TX – Offers a game programming course taught by Ian Parberry. Students work together to create a game in the Laboratory of Recreational Computing.

11. GuildHall at SMU - Offers a Master of Interactive Technology in Digital Game Development. Quite costly and very Microsoft centric. Cost ~ $ 57k. 21 month course.

12. University of Pennsylvania – Offers an MSE in Computer Graphics and Game Technology.

13. WPI – Offers a major in Interactive Media and Game Development, which is only for undergraduates.

14. Full Sail – Offers a competitive program in game development.

15. Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy at UCF (University of Central Florida) – A 16-month fully accredited master’s degree. Students get a MS in Interactive Entertainment. The program is very industry, group and

project focused and has graduates working at EA, n-Space, Disney, Neversoft, Pi Studios, Bioware, Lockheed Martin and many other places.

The University of Cambridge?
The University of Cambridge, informally called as Cambridge University or Cambridge, is one of the famous universities in the world. It is the second oldest University in England and is considered as the fourth oldest in the world.
The legend has it that The University of Cambridge was founded in the year 1209. During that time, there were scholars who were escaping Oxford due to a fight they had with the locals. In 1231, King Henry III gave them a teaching monopoly.

The University of Cambridge produces famous writers, scientists, and politicians in Britain. The University has 31 college institutions. The first College is named Peterhouse and was founded in the year 1284 by the Bishop of Ely Hugh Balsham. During the 14th and 15th centuries, many other colleges were also founded. These colleges acted as independent institutions that are separated from Cambridge itself. These colleges have the autonomy to decide who to admit, have the responsibility when it comes to the welfare of their students, and over small group teaching.

In 1869, the first college institution for women was created – the Girton College. Three years later, another college institution for women was founded – the Newnham College. At first, only male students were admitted to Cambridge. In 1882, attempts were made to make women as full members of The University of Cambridge however, this failed. It was only in 1947, that women were made full members of Cambridge.

More than a century later, The Cambridge University is still considered one of the best universities in the world. It continues to produce famous students in the field of politics, science, and the arts.
